Ducati’s race homologation version of the 1997 916, the 916 SPS had stronger crankcases to accomodate 996cc of displacement, a lighter tungsten plug balanced crankshaft, new heads to accomodate the bigger displacement and bigger valves. Titanium connecting rods in conjunction with the lighter crankshaft allowed these motors to rev more freely than the previous 955cc 916 SP motor despite the increase in displacement. The chassis remained as it was on the 1996 916 SP with Ohlins rear shock, Showa forks and Brembo brakes and cast iron floating rotors. Unmounted noisier freer flowing Termignoni carbon fiber mufflers came in a box with each bike. 404 bikes were produced with only 50 bikes sent to the U.S.

This bike is completely original and stock except for the tires. The carbon fiber Termis which came with the bike are installed and the bike has been tuned by Doug Lofgren.
