Although the Ducati 999 was radically different appearing than the 998 which preceded it, mechanically the bikes are an evolution of the Ducati superbike formula set back in the 80s with the Ducati 750F1. Trellis frame, 90 degree V-twin with Desmodronic valve actuation. As an evolution of the 998, the 999 was also a Testaretta motored bike. The R version featured all carbon fiber bodywork, magnesium fairing stay and headlight bucket,  The engine featured titanium connecting rods, bigger valves, and higher lift cams. Ducati produced 800 999Rs in 2003.

This bike is stock except for Fast by Ferraci comfort clip ons, Sargent seat, and BST carbon fiber wheels. All the stock parts are stored so the bike can be returned to stock for static display.
