In 1999 Aprilia began sponsoring the RS250 Challenge Cup series for their 2 stroke RS250 motorcycle in the U.S.. As the 2 strokes couldn’t pass emissions, Challenge Cup bikes were produced in Italy without lights, street switchgear. horn, kickstand, mirrors or passenger accomodations. These bikes had 15 digit VIN as opposed to the U.S. standard 17 digit VIN and were generally unlicensable for street use. The RS250 featured a slightly modified Suzuki 90 degree V twin engine, which had been used in Suzuki’s RGV250 series in an Aprilia built frame with modern suspension. With a dry weight of around 300 lbs, and a wet weight under 370 lbs. the Aprilia’s handle incredibly.

This bike is an ex-race bike which has been converted to street spec using Aprilia factory parts. The engine was completely rebuilt a couple of years ago and the bike is registered and plated for street use under Minnesota’s provisions for off-road motorcycles.  It has aftermarket expansion chambers on it to increase power and with the chambers and no passenger accomodations weighs about 350 lbs. full of gas.
