Following the introduction of the GSXR750 in 1985, the 1986 GSXR1100 featured the same design as the 750 with an 1100cc engine. While some components were interchangeable between the 750 and 1100, the frame, engine and suspension were unique to the 1100. Like the 750, the 1100 was much lighter than the competition. On top of this, the 1100 was the racier than the competition. Superbike rules at the time limited displacement to 750cc, so the 750 superbike class was the raciest, while all other big bore superbikes except the GSXR 1100 were substantially heavier and bigger than their 750 counterparts.

This bike is a project bike, which is being built to be used for regular road riding since the GSXR750 Limited has been put into static display. It spent many years as a racebike and was purchased with a badly spun rod bearing. The engine has been rebuilt with a new crank, bearings, oil pump, 1109 big bore kit, competition cams, hardened cam followers, cleaned up head, new valves and valve springs. Mikuni smoothbore carbs and a Yoshimura 4 into 1 exhaust will be used when it is completed.  The forks have been rebuilt using Racetech valving and the anti-dive units have been blocked off. A new Ohlins shock with be fitted and the wheels will be period Marchesini magnesium units in stock sizes. The body work has been completely repainted in the 1986 Union Jack scheme. Hopefully this bike will be completed in 2022.
