The 1979 GS1000S was a sport version of the standard GS1000 Suzuki introduced in 1977. GS 4 stroke  models were Suzuki’s move away from the 3 cylinder 2 strokes of the GT model line. Technically it was similar to the GS750 which was introduced the same year. Both featured 4 cylinder DOHC 2 valve motors and the single backbone tube double cradle frames which made the bike the best handling large displacement bikes at the time.  The S version was only produced for 1979 and 1980. It featured a fork mounted 1/4 fairing with automotive style mirrors and a dash cluster which included an oil temperature gauge and electric clock. It also featured an 18″ rear wheel instead of the 17″ rear wheel found on the standard versions. Wes Cooley on a GS1000S based superbike riding for the Yoshimura team won the AMA Superbike series in 1979 and 1980 so the bikes became known as the Wes Cooley.

This bike has the following period modifications: Telefix fork brace, custom trimmed Airtech fiberglass front fender, braided steel brake lines, Russell oil cooler, MotoGP Werks 4 into 1 exhaust, K&N pod air filters, 1982 GS1100E boxed aluminum swingarm, Works Performance remote reservoir shocks and custom contoured and covered seat. All the stock parts are stored so the bike can be returned to stock condition if it gets retired to static display duty.
